RaT's blog

Old Content

Once again I've looked through archives and uploaded some old content. This time it was a series of classic images which I uploaded to the Classic section of our image galleries. Many people probably won't enjoy these, but anybody who has been around SX for over 10 years will Smile

I plan to get all of the old text files uploaded this week. I may only upload the ones that still apply, I'm not sure yet. Either way, most of our older text files can be found on textfiles.com.

Ghost In The Machine - 2007 Posting...

From 2007:

To be true to my news posts in the past, I have been awake for over 48 hours. I have not felt the deprivation of sleep like this for what feels like an eternity. For those who once knew me, you knew me as the entity who does not sleep.

Updated Hacker's Manifesto -> 2003.09.23

2003.09.23

It happened again today. Another one sold out, sacrificing their dreams to the corporate security machine.

Damn whitehats, noone believes in a cause anymore.

Another bug was released today to the security mailing lists.

Damn Whitehats, they know not what they do.

Another potential computer genius was relegated to an existence of nothing more than than a 9-5 cubicle-dwelling promotional tool.

Damn whitehats, putting money before discovery.

Compiling a SOLDIERX members list...

I'm trying to compile a list of past and present members here. If you remember members that are not on this list - please let me know. Hopefully this thing will be completed sometime next week and it will be added to the navigation pane.

In other news, SX Labs was completed on time and I'm currently just digging projects out of the archives and posting them on there. I have a project that I have been working on called "Agent Steal" that is a gift to Geek Squad. It's currently in testing and should be online soon Smile

HDB Cleanup

Thanks to everybody who has been working on the HDB cleanup (more entries, more pictures, better content). I'm currently trying to get all of the Tags cleaned up where various people did them incorrectly under the guidance of Durandal. I will post a complete list of accepted tags when this is done so that people can better understand how to do HDB entries.

Current List:
Hacker
Phreaker
White Hat
Black Hat
Author
Programmer
Professor
Arrested
Activist
Archivist
Carder
Scientist
(more to come)

And of course group names (list coming soon)

Howard and Nester Complete

Howard and Nester are completely uploaded. It's nice to read them to bring back memories, but they're not as funny as I remembered. I guess it's a kid thing. They may be removed in the future if nobody really likes them, I'll have to ask around and see the general response.

Howard and Nester

I recently found an archive of old SX images and such so I've been hard at work uploading them. One of the things that I found (non-SX) was an archive of Howard and Nester. For anybody who doesn't know that this is, it was a comic that used to appear in Nintendo Power. For anybody that grew up in the 80s, Nintendo Power used to be *THE* magazine to have back when Nintendo dominated the console entertainment industry. I will try to get at least one of these uploaded everyday, hopefully everybody will enjoy them as much as I do.

The whole comic thing was kind of started when Amp was looking for a certain character named SnowFlame who was a villain powered by cocaine. This caused me to look through many archives and such of my own, and I ended up discovering the Howard and Nester files.

Moving past Durandal...

As a group we need to have some kind of a meeting on our goals. It seems that this whole ordeal with Durandal has put everything to a stand still on account of everybody being angry and disgusted with his actions. I am going to be working on the site where I left off, hopefully everybody else can get back to business as well. Here is a list of things that were on the agenda before the whole Durandal ordeal:

Comcast Tutorial (based on the speech by Blake, devDelay, and bitemytaco at Defcon 16) due to the Comcast 250GB limit
Return of SX Labs (build into current CMS)

Server Woes

I had some messages from people saying that they weren't getting emails from the site. I looked into this and noticed that email had stopped working on September 10, 2008. I contacted Zee (our host) about the issue and he mentioned that the server had been rebooted by another admin. After looking into the issue a little deeper, he realized that not only was email not working - but mysql was jacked up as well. Shortly after he noticed this, the site got really wacky and I was afraid that we'd be restoring from backups today. Luckily Zee is the man - so that doesn't have to happen.

Lack of Spirit

Some people have told me that they feel the HDB is pointless. The whole idea behind the HDB is to tell the stories of the past for those who don't know them. Many people don't realize where the hacking/underground/whatever-you-want-to-call-it community has come from, and I feel that it's important to know the roots. Just like a good math teacher will tell you about the history of mathematics, it seems that people should know the history of computer hackers. I feel many people have a lack of spirit as described in http://phrack.com/issues.html?issue=64&id=4#article
